Casa Sofia is built in the traditional Goan/Portuguese style with high beamed ceilings, thick stone walls and an overhanging terracotta red tiled roof. It has all the atmosphere of the grander Portuguese houses but on a smaller scale. Casa Sofia has been renovated to include two modern bathrooms, two air-conditioned bedrooms and a kitchen but retains many of its original features such as the large wooden entrance doors, wooden shutters on all the windows and translucent shell glass windows in the sitting room. There is a wide front verandah with cane rocking chairs and, best of all, a traditional "Balcao" or porch leading from the dining room into the lovely rear garden.
The balcao has bench seats along both sides and is wide enough to accommodate a table for those al fresco meals.
Casa Sofia can be found along a small residential lane in Parra village surrounded by orchards, wooded hillside and paddy fields and is the house to choose if you want to sample the relaxed atmosphere of country life. The house is named after the owners mother who lives in the family house opposite. She is famous for her Goan cooking and is the "Sofia" featured in Madhur Jaffreys BBC series and cookbook "Flavour of India". You never know, she may be persuaded to share her recipes with you.
It is a rural area and tourist hotels are unknown here although the very popular beaches and restaurants of Anjuna, Baga and Calangute are no more than 10 minutes drive away. So that you can take full advantage of this delightful rural location, we provide a car and driver in the price of your holiday for your exclusive use. All you pay for is the petrol you use.
The house is set in its own private walled garden and there is a rear gate leading into the orchards. The owner is a keen gardener and has taken much pride in creating a garden filled with tropical plants. There is even a hammock for lazy afternoons and a barbecue for "at home " evenings. There are wonderful early morning walks on the hills - a birdwatchers delight.
Casa Sofia is entered through the delightful traditional bacao that runs across the front of the house. From here the original large double wooden doors open in to

Car and Driver Facility
Casa Sofia has a car and driver included in the price. So everyday you have the freedom to visit a different beach and in the evenings sample the many restaurants. Shopping is easy too - with the driver to help on where to go and what to buy. If you want to explore, your driver is a knowledgeable guide and can show you not only the usual sights but also the ones outside the well-trodden tourist routes. Enjoy a touch of luxury with your own personal driver (and let someone else cope with the confusing traffic and racetrack rules of the road).
The vehicles are Maruti taxi vans that carry up to 4 passengers and luggage easily and are available courtesy of Lazydays for up to 10 hours daily between 8am and 12pm with a minimum of 1 hour for lunch (hours negotiated locally with the driver).
EXTRAS Petrol: Calculated at the rate of Rs 5 per km Rs100: if any journey begins or ends outside the contracted hours. Rs50 per hour: If you require the driver for longer than 10 hours this will have to be negotiated with your driver and an hourly rate of Rs50 will be payable. Ferry charges: Rs.7 per crossing.
Families are made most welcome.

Dec, 2007 Another year and yet another wonderful stay at Casa Sofia. Our fourth holiday in a row here so truly it feels like home from home. As ever we were made to feel welcome and part of the extended family and friends and even part of this idyllic village. So a list of thank yours!!!
Sophie, Jingo & Tony for being warm and wonderful hosts and for the warm chops and cold beer.
A huge thanks as ever to truly marvelous Vithu, the man who knows everyone.
To pretty, smiley Shobha who has looked after us so well while we were here.
To Alan and Julia the best greeters this side of Asda and for their good company and cold beer (is this a trend?).
So, sad to be going, but already looking forward to next year. So see you all soon.
We had looked forward to this vacation and conjured up images of Casa Sofia. What a wonderful and traditional villa it is, surrounded by families and vegetation. Regarding my mother (Greta) and myself (Zena) of our family roots in Goa, later Mangalore and sharing the experience with my English husband (Richard) albeit who is well used with India and our previous travels through the sub - continent. Residing for three weeks in this idyllic family environment with Sofia constantly spoiling us with her home cooking has added to the warm welcome over the Christmas period. Jingo and his family have been exceedingly hospitable which has given us the opportunity to savor the local way of life. Thus adding to our holiday memories. Lastly, Lazydays have to be acknowledged in preparing a very accurate narrative on Casa Sofia which we first discovered on the Internet. John Bishop, the representative in the UK has been very efficient with the arrangements. The portfolio found in the villa is equally informative. Our good wishes and thank you to one and all.

What a wonderful place! Spent a blissful week here in Casa Sofia The whole village made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to say hello if we were wondering around. Jingo & Sophia were both lovely and made us feel at home whilst Vithu & Suman have been brilliant throughout the stay. Both could not have been more helpful to make sure we had a great holiday. So a big thank you to everyone looking forward to seeing you all again next year.
